What is SAP Probation?
SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) Probation is granted to students who have submitted and received approval for a SAP Appeal. While on probation, financial aid eligibility is temporarily reinstated, provided the student meets all conditions outlined in their approved academic plan.
The academic plan must:
-
Be designed to ensure the student meets all SAP standards by the final term of the plan.
-
Include only courses that apply toward the student’s declared program(s) of study (major).
What are the conditions of SAP Probation?
Students on SAP Probation must follow the academic plan developed with a counselor (usually a Student Education Plan, or SEP). At a minimum, each term, students must:
-
Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.
-
Successfully complete at least 67% of enrolled units with a passing grade (P, A, B, C, or D).
-
Enroll only in courses listed on the approved SEP; must also apply toward the student’s declared program(s) of study (major).
⚠️ If the academic plan requires higher standards (such as a higher GPA or completion rate), students must meet those more stringent requirements in order to remain eligible for financial aid.
How often is probation reviewed?
SAP Probation is reviewed by the SAP Appeal Committee at the end of every term (fall, spring, and summer). Students who meet the conditions of their academic plan will continue to be placed on probation until either they complete their program or begin to meet the SAP Standards.
What happens if a student fails to meet the conditions of the appeal?
Students who fail to meet the conditions of the appeal will be terminated. Once terminated, students will be disqualified from receiving most forms of financial aid. Note, California College Promise Grant (CCPG) has different eligibility criteria and in most cases may continue to be eligible for this grant.
