English Proficiency Requirements
For Citrus College, English proficiency is generally not required for admission, especially if you plan to begin in the ESL (English as a Second Language) program.
However, if you intend to start directly in the Academic/College program, it is strongly recommended that you submit proof of English proficiency. Please note that during your F-1 visa interview, consular officers may expect you to demonstrate English ability if you are applying to an academic program. Not providing proof may impact your chances of visa approval.
Ways to Demonstrate English Proficiency
English proficiency may be demonstrated through academic experience, test scores, or completion of an approved English language program.
Academic Experience
- Passing an academic English course at an accredited U.S. college or university (official transcripts required)
- Completion of 2 or more years of high school in an English-speaking country (such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, or Australia)
- Completion of high school in a non-English-speaking country where more than half of instruction was in English
- Must include official documentation confirming the language of instruction
Test Scores
- Cambridge English exam
- Duolingo English Test: 90 or higher
- GTEC: 946 or higher
- IELTS: 6.0 or higher
- ITEP: 5.6 or higher
- Pearson (PTE): 39 or higher
- TOEFL: minimum score accepted (recommended equivalent to intermediate proficiency)
Program Completion
- EIKEN: Grade 2 or higher
- ELS: Level 109 or higher
- FLS: Level 14 or higher
- Kaplan: Higher Intermediate level or higher
Additional Information
If you have another type of proof not listed above, you may submit it through your application for review by the International Student Center (ISC).
