International students who need to meet with a counselor have three options:
- Visit the International Student Center (ISC) in person. ISC staff can assist students and help coordinate counseling appointments as needed.
- Call the ISC at (626) 914-8549. Staff can help schedule an appointment with a counselor or provide guidance on the appropriate counseling resource.
- Schedule directly through General Counseling. Students may book a counseling appointment online through the Counseling and Advisement Center for services such as education planning, registration assistance, transfer planning, graduation reviews, and other academic counseling needs. Appointments are available in person, by phone, or via Zoom
An international student would generally need to meet with a counselor for:
- Student Education Plans (SEPs), including comprehensive and abbreviated SEPs.
- Course selection and academic planning to ensure progress toward a degree, certificate, transfer goal, or I-20 completion date.
- Major selection and changes, including determining an appropriate educational pathway.
- Transfer planning for CSU, UC, or private universities.
- Graduation and certificate evaluations.
- Academic probation, dismissal, and appeals, including development of success plans.
- Transcript evaluation and discussion of how completed coursework applies to educational objectives.
- Reduced Course Load (RCL) approvals that require academic justification, such as a final-semester completion review or academic difficulty determination.
- I-20 extensions that require counselor-certified coursework remaining to complete a program.
- Assessment of degree applicability when determining whether courses satisfy program or transfer requirements.
