Effective for 2024-2025, beginning in fall 2024
There was a change in how your college living situation affects your financial aid for the upcoming school year (starting Fall 2024). Here's what you need to know:
The FAFSA/CADAA doesn't ask about housing anymore. This means the Citrus College Financial Aid Department will make an initial assumption about where you live, which can affect how much financial aid you get.
Why does this matter?
Because living with parents vs. off-campus impacts your estimated Cost of Attendance (COA). We need this information to estimate how much you'll need for things like housing, food, and textbooks.
Living Situation Assumptions
- Independent students: We'll assume you live off-campus (unless you tell us otherwise).
- Dependent students: We'll assume you live with your parents (unless you tell us otherwise).
How to Confirm Your College Living Situation
- Log in to the Financial Aid Dashboard on the Citrus College student portal.
- Look for the section titled "Required Questions" on the Home tab.
- Choose "Living with parent(s) or relatives" or "Living off-campus" to reflect your actual situation.
- Submit your changes! The Financial Aid Department will review it and adjust your financial aid package if needed (it might take 7-10 business days).
Be sure to answer accurately the first time. If your initial submission is incorrect, you may be required to provide additional documentation.
Why this is important
- Getting your housing status right makes sure you get the right amount of financial aid from Citrus College.
- Incorrect info could mean you get less aid than you deserve, or even have to pay some back later.
